Dark, glossy leaves and white spathes that arrive without warning.
It is the plant people mean when they say they want something that flowers indoors. It also tells you when it is thirsty — the leaves droop, you water it, and within a few hours it stands back up. Very hard to lose.
Looking after it

- Bright indirect light. Tolerates low light, though it flowers less.
- Water
- When the top of the soil feels dry. It will droop first as a warning.
- Where it works
- Living rooms, bedrooms, desks, a shaded veranda.
- Care level
- Easy — good for a first plant.
